The unethical behavior I came across is over a century old, but very memorable for me to remember. My unethical behavior was about the late singer Aaliyah who passed back in Aug of 2001, and R.Kelly. I use to bang their music back in the day. They got some nice hits! The organization it had to deal with was Blackground Records. Aaliyah at the time was new to the game. (15 years old) Her uncle Barry Hankerson was her manager. He was also 27-year old R.Kellys manager , and had wanted him to travel to Detroit to hear Aaliyah sing. The two linked up made great music but eventually mixed business with pleasure, and that’s when the rumors began to surface the air that Aaliyah and R. Kelly had gotten married. Now R.Kelly could be facing statutory rape. The Duo
Looking back on this, I see so many ways the company could have gone about the situation differently. For the first decision, as an uncle I would’ve made some type of parental guidance or mentoring to be with Aaliyah, instead of throwing her off onto a 27-year old. The company could have at least waited for her to be more mature in age until they signed her. When the rumors started to circulate on the media, the company should have cut all collaborations (songs, videos, and hanging out, talk shows) off. They also should have told the two not to speak on the topic, when asked. Luckily someone had enough sense to recognize Aaliyah wasn’t ready for that much to be occurring in her life and the two was split up and sent on about their way, as if nothing ever happened. The Media & R,Kelly & Aaliyah
On Aaliyahs’ part I don’t think it affected her or her career. People still question the situation today, but Aaliyah grew up and blossomed into a woman. She overcame that and was seen to be and still is one of the best female artists of all time. For R.Kelly I believe this was just the beginning of his pedophile attempts. Later down the road in 2008 he found himself in another situation like before. So, I would say his is long term. Do you know how many R.Kelly pedophile jokes there’re?!?! He still makes music and is still in the industry but he’s done. Blackground Records are still around today. They feel off a little, I think. But in the long run I think they end up letting R.Kelly go due to the future pedophile charges.
